Showtime!
Another year, another VSFS. My 9th year watching it on the day it comes out, and it was quite underwhelming.
I'm going to divide my thoughts in three categories: models, segments and performers. I have a loooot to say.
¡Showtime!
Otro año, otro VSFS. Mi noveno año viéndolo el día en que se emite, y ha sido algo decepcionante.
Voy a dividir mis opiniones en tres categorías: modelos, segmentos y artistas. Tengo muuuucho que contar.
Models:
It's quite hard to give the models feedback when you can barely see their work. The way the show is edited gets worse every year, and we see less and less of the models' walks. An example is Bella Hadid, who we could see on small previews that she walked really well. Yet on the final edit, you don't really see the proper angles and her walk looks more average. Same for most models.
Josephine was the angel that got the biggest amount of air time, and it's clear that they want her to be their main angel in the near future. She's an absolute sweetheart and a pleasure to work with, so I'm not surprise. But, she should have asked them to change her wings because they were too heavy for her. You could tell she was struggling, and while I applaud her for trying to be professional, I'd say to her that there is no shame in admiting your limitations. But she's still adorable, so I don't mind too much.
Based more on photos than the actual show, I can say that my favourites were my favourites. Well, that makes a lot of sense. By that I mean Taylor, Romee, Blanca, Grace, ...all of them looked great.
This was Alessandra's last show and it is very sad. It made me emotional seeing her on the runway knowing that was it, her final show. She's one of their most iconic angels and will always be.
Es difícil evaluar a las modelos cuando apenas puedes ver su trabajo. La manera en que editan el desfile va a peor, y cada vez se ve menos a las modelos mientras desfilan. Un ejemplo es Bella Hadid, a la que vimos desfilando muy bien en diferentes vídeos grabados en el día del desfile. Pero eso no se refleja en el desfile editado, porque no nos enseñan los ángulos que muestran bien como desfiló. Y lo mismo pasa con muchas otras modelos.
Josephine fue el ángel que más han usado para el desfile, y está claro que es porque quieren que sea su ángel principal en un futuro no muy lejano. Es un amor y trabajar con ella es facilísimo, así que no me extraña. Pero debería haberles pedido que la cambiasen las alas porque eran demasiado pesadas para ella. Se ve que estaba sufriendo al andar. Y por un lado aplaudo su profesionalidad, pero a la vez la diría que no es malo reconocer tus limitaciones. Aún así es adorable, así que la perdono.
Basándome en fotos, no en el desfile, puedo decir que mis favoritas fueron mis favoritas. Lo cual aclara mucho. Quiero decir que Taylor, Romee, Blanca, Grace, ...esas fueron las que más destacaron para mi.
Este fue el último desfile de Alessandra, lo cual es muy triste. Es uno de los ángeles más icónicos de la marca y siempre lo será.
Segments:
Goddesses was my favourite segment, and I'm glad they closed the show with it. Or they could have opened the show with it, anything but PUNK. I really disliked the whole two models walking at the same time on pictures, but it was even worse in motion. At least they could have talked about their poses before walking, so it wouldn't look as awkward.
And when it comes to the segments in between segments, I liked the one talking about some of the angels as kids. It's been done many times but it's always cute.
I always like how Jasmine says that she always wanted to be a model. It seems like most models have to say that they didn't want to be one, but it happened so whatever. Like there is something to be ashamed of if you want to be a model and not a doctor. Go Jasmine!
Goddesses fue mi segmento favorito, y me alegra que fuese el que cerró el desfile. O podría haberlo abierto, lo que sea con tal de que no fuera PUNK. No me gustó nada lo de que las modelos saliesen de dos en dos, y lo comenté cuando salieron las fotos. Pero en movimiento fue aún peor. Al menos podían haber hablado de como iban a posar al final de la pasarela antes de salir a la pasarela. Quedó muy mal.
Y hablando de segmentos entre segmentos, tengo que decir que mi favorito fue en el que hablaban de como eran algunos ángeles cuando eran niñas. Lo han hecho muchas veces, pero es muy cuco.
Siempre me gusta oír a Jasmine admitiendo que siempre quiso ser una modelo. Parece que la mayoría de modelos tengan que decir que nunca quisieron serlo, pero pasó por arte de magia. Como si fuese algo de lo que avergonzarse. Si, en vez de soñar con ser médico, ella soñaba con ser modelo. ¿Y qué? ¡Bien hecho, Jasmine!
Performers:
I promised that I'd talk more about the performers today, since we didn't really know who was performing until the day before the show.
My favourite out of the bunch was Harry Styles. Who saw that coming? Not me. But the truth is that his songs worked well for the show, he didn't bother the models and was a good performer overall.
While I was listening to him, I couldn't help but think about how many of his fans wanted him to be nominated for a Grammy on the "Rock" category and...yeah, his songs are catchy and I respect his career quite a bit, but that might be pushing it. Like, my favourite band is nominated for "Best Rock Song" and if you listen to "The Stage" and to "Kiwi", you'll see the difference.
Funny thing is that by seeing him dancing, I've realised we learnt how to dance on the same school. It's the "dance as if there was no one else in the room and don't give a damn about anyone who thinks you look like a crazy dork". It's a good one.
Miguel (I still don't know who this guy is) was my least favourite, because he was too into interacting with the models. And I don't approve.
I feel like he knew he wasn't the biggest star and tried a bit too hard.
Jane Zhang was ok for the PINK section, but definetely not my kind of music. And, unsurprisingly, Leslie Odom Jr. was the best vocalist and while I appreciate that a lot, this is the VSFS and they need entertainers like this Zhang person, not good singers. Unless your name is Lady Gaga and you are both.
Os prometí que hablaría más de los artistas hoy, ya que los confirmaron el día antes del desfile y no tuve tiempo de hacerlo en mi entrada dedicada a los artistas.
Mi favorito fue Harry Styles. ¿Quién pensó que alguna vez diría algo así? Yo no. Pero lo cierto es que sus canciones pegaban mucho en el desfile, no molestó a las modelos y fue en general un buen artista actuando bien.
Mientras le escuchaba no podía evitar pensar en como se quejaban ayer algunos de sus fans de que no le nominaran a un Grammy, en la categoría de Rock. A lo mejor se nos está yendo de las manos. Vale que sus canciones son super pegadizas y que respeto su carrera mucho, pero se nos va de las manos. Mi grupo favorito ha sido nominado a "Mejor canción de rock" y si escucháis "The Stage" seguida de "Kiwi", veréis la diferencia.
Lo más gracioso fue verle bailar y descubrir que aprendimos a bailar en la misma escuela. Es la escuela de "baila como si no hubiera nadie más alrededor y no importándote que la gente que te ve piense que estas un poco ido de la cabeza". Es muy buena.
Miguel (sigo sin saber quien es) fue mi menos favorito, porque intentó interactuar con las modelos demasiado y eso no lo apruebo.
Tengo la sensación de que sabía que era el menos famoso y se esforzó demasiado en destacar.
Jane Zhang funcionó muy bien en PINK, pero para nada es mi tipo de música. Y como era de esperar, Leslie Odom Jr fue el mejor vocalista. Y pese a que aprecio que lo sea, esto es el VSFS y quieres gente que haga un espectáculo, no buenos cantantes. A no ser que seas Lady Gaga y hagas ambas cosas.
