The Earth rotates

The rotational motion of Earth gives the luminous bodies in the night sky a sweeping appearance. The white dome of the Residencia occupies the bottom of the image. The Residencia hosts those working at ESO’s Paranal Observatory. The hotel represents an oasis in the dry and harsh conditions of the Chilean Atacama desert.
